FAQs
- Why buy a Steurer & Jacoby® golf bag?
-
Steurer & Jacoby® golf bags are based on traditional designs from the turn of the century through the mid-1900s; no other bag on the market will deliver our level of handcrafted quality and classic style. After 40 years of experience, we can say with confidence that Steurer & Jacoby® products pass the test of time.
- Our bags' key features:
-
Internal Metal Frame: Our Airliner, Classic Staff, Gran Tour, and Sunday style bags have an internal metal frame which supports the bag and keeps it standing upright (Pencil and Caddy models do not have this frame)
Top and Full-Length Dividers: We offer 2-way, 3-way and 4-way (8” only) dividers to help organize & separate the clubs.
Sheep Shearling Sling: This offers a great soft padding for the shoulder while carrying your bag.
- Where our bags are made:
-
Every product that we ship out is made from start-to-finish at our new facility in St. Paul, Minnesota. If you are ever in the Twin Cities area, please drop in.
- The raw materials we use:
-
Our products come in three main finishes: Waxed Cotton Duck Canvas, Scottish Woollen Tartan, and Premium Leather. No matter the exterior you choose for your bag, we aim to deliver the best that is available in quality and whenever possible, we source our raw materials from small American companies.
Waxed Cotton Duck Canvas: from American mills - colors may vary depending on dye-lot
Scottish Woollen Tartan: directly from Scotland, we use W60 quality Tartan made of 100% pure new wool
Premium Leather: We use leather cow and bison hides sourced from small local American tanneries. All leather hides are unique so colors may vary slightly.
Hardware: 100% solid brass
Stitching: sewn by hand in St. Paul Minnesota using high-quality, UV-resistant nylon thread
- Available personalization:
-
Yes, we offer the ability to place both on your Golf Bag. We engrave your name at $50 extra charge and $100 for logos. Remember, any product with a name or logo cannot be returned.
- S&J bag stand:
-
In keeping with our commitment to only craft traditional golf bags, we do not make a Stand Golf Bag. We do, however, offer a stand for your golf bag. Based on models from the 1890’s, our stands are made from Indiana White Oak and cradle your golf bag for a hands-free experience on the course. We include extra leather laces/strips to replace when the original wears out.
- Do you walk the course or do you use a cart?
-
If you walk, our Pencil and Sunday bags are a great choice because of their lightweight and minimalist design. You will find that we offer these in 6”, 7” and 8” openings.
If you use a cart, any of our bags will work. However, the Classic Staff, Airliner, and Gran Tour models are designed for the player who likes a bag with multiple pockets and storage compartments.
- Do you travel with your golf clubs? How much storage do you want your bag to have?
-
If you travel light we recommend the Pencil or Sunday as they have the most minimalist designs.
If you like to carry extra balls, extra gloves, and still have space left for additional items, you should see our Gran Tour and Classic Staff bags.
- How to clean your Waxed Cotton Duck Canvas golf bag:
-
This exterior has wax melted into the fibers to make the canvas sturdy, and water-resistant. Because of that, extreme care should be used in cleaning to avoid using anything hot that could reactivate the wax. Softly remove dirt or mud by gently brushing the canvas, and use a small amount of cold water. If the dirt is especially stubborn, you can use a very small amount of dish soap to encourage it to budge. After cleaning, be sure to let the bag air dry.
Also, be careful to not expose a canvas bag to prolonged high temperatures, e.g. do not leave in a car trunk at 100ºF
We offer small cans of wax to replenish areas that may need to be re-waxed.
Do not dry-clean.
- How to clean your Scottish Woolen Tartan golf bag:
-
Use a small amount of cold water and dish soap to gently remove any grime. Air dry after cleaning.
Do not scrub as this could agitate the fibers and cause warp.
Do not dry-clean.
- How to clean your Premium Leather golf bag:
-
Fiebings 4-Way Care is the best product for cleaning and maintaining leather. This product cleans the leather by “floating” out the dirt from the fibers; conditions by “coating” the fibers which strengthens them; replenishes the tanning oils that have been lost by UV, dirt and weather; preserves the leather by sealing and waterproofing the leather. We offer small bottles for purchase.
- Are Steurer & Jacoby® golf bags waterproof?
-
This is a question that we get often, and the very short answer is no. However, our Waxed Cotton Duck Canvas and Premium Leather exteriors are water-repellant. Allow your golf bag to naturally air dry after being exposed to rain.
